Tureks Turunç Mining Saves 86% in Energy Consumption Thanks to Newly Developed Technology

  • As part of its new R&D project, Tureks Turunç Mining achieves 20% overall energy savings and 86% savings on energy consumed for heating lines.
  • Tureks Turunç Mining is preparing to share the project it has implemented in its own production facilities with the mining industry.
  • The project “Achieving Marble Slab Resining Efficiency Under Natural Conditions” is based on reducing investment costs and energy consumption.
  • With the launch of the project, in addition to energy savings, there is also a 38% increase in production.

Tureks Turunç Mining has launched another R&D project, a project it has been investing in relentlessly since 2013. Thanks to its recently launched project, "Achieving Marble Slab Resining Efficiency Under Natural Conditions," which it has been working on for some time, it is achieving a 20% overall energy savings and an 86% savings on energy consumed for heating the lines.

A More Sustainable Industry

The focus of Tureks Turunç Mining's R&D projects is not only on finding new uses for marble but also on using natural resources more sustainably and even designing sectoral solutions in this regard.

Osman Cavit Turunç, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tureks Turunç Mining, made the following statement about the project : “R&D investment is one of the main building blocks of our corporate culture. Since our establishment, we have been closely following different techniques and technologies and implementing various projects. Since 2013, these projects have been made available to all our stakeholders, both within our own institution and in the sector, under the umbrella of a corporate research center.”

The "Ensuring Marble Slab Resining Efficiency Under Natural Conditions" project is one such example. By providing savings to institutions and the sector, the project also contributes to environmental sustainability within the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The project was initiated to strengthen marble slabs and repair the surface using polyester resin and epoxy to enable the heating/ashing system in the resin lines to be built without using additional electricity and heating energy.

With the implementation of the project, the ambient temperature required for the resination process was increased to 50-60°C, each plate was individually entered into the furnace to complete the ashing process, and the 24-hour waiting period was eliminated.

Energy Savings and a Higher Quality Production Process

The goal of this newly developed project is to save energy and increase the quality and efficiency of the process.

The project supports a sustainable production system by eliminating some of the cost-increasing steps, while the quality and efficiency of the resin and surface repair work automatically increases within the scope of the production processes with increased performance.

The project, which offers a permanent solution to the sectoral production system, also adopts a more sustainable/environmentally friendly production process by reducing energy consumption.
